New American Advocacy Service (NAAS)

NAAS is AVA's longest running program, begun in 1979 with the establishment of AVA. Since then, AVA has helped over 25,000 refugees and immigrants of all backgrounds secure housing, apply for government-sponsored health and supplemental income benefits, and apply for U.S citizenship. On February 2, 2009, AVA became the first and only Vietnamese American organization in the nation recognized by the Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), authorized to provide legal immigration assistance and representation.

Through NAAS, AVA has assisted refugees and immigrants (primarily from Southeast Asia, and more recently from Africa) apply for permanent residency and citizenship, reunite families, translate and notarize important documents, and provided references to other helpful agencies.
